Paternity is the process that establishes a legal relationship between a father and a child who is born out of wedlock. Parents involved in such actions first address the need to formally adjudicate the father.  This may involve genetic testing.  Once paternity is established, parents address legal custody, physical placement, child support, health insurance expenses, birth expenses, and a variety of other financial matters.  Such issues can be resolved through mediation or a collaborative, cooperative or traditional adversarial process.

At the family law firm of Gagne, McChrystal, De Lorenzo and Burghardt, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, we are experts in paternity law.
